The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has launched a campaign which aims at creatively and visibly communicating its initiatives towards conserving the environment for tomorrow. These initiatives, projects and actions of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are aimed at ensuring the effective and responsible use and management of our natural resources. This campaign is called The Go Green Campaign. The objective of this campaign is to emphasize initiatives by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and to highlight actions that can be taken by you, the resident of Nelson Mandela Bay on how you can manage your own environment at home, at work and in your everyday and how that can have a positive impact.
The Benefits of going Green
You might be asking yourself, how will I benefit from getting involved in this campaign. Well, recently there has been an increase in events directly related to the availability of natural resources e.g. energy shortages that resulted to load shedding, change in weather patterns and water shortages. As a result, both the NMBM and civil society are recognizing the need to manage our natural resources more effectively and responsibly. In doing so, we can ensure positive effects on our health, quality of life and even the cost of living.
What if we do not Go Green
- Natural resources will have a much shorter life-span and would become scarce
- Because of the scarcity natural resources e.g. water & energy will become more expensive
- We are harming our ecosystems, which provides essential services to us
