UPDATE ON THE CHURCHILL PIPELINE
The Municipality wishes to update residents that the Churchill pipeline is now running at full pressure and the main in line valves are open.
The system will continue to recover throughout the night.
UPDATE ON THE CHURCHILL PIPELINE
Teams continued to work throughout the night to find the exact location of the fault.
It was discovered that the fault was coming from underneath a large gabion structure beside the 1200mm diameter pipe, which had to be carefully dismantled.
The damaged section has been isolated and water supply has been opened to the Metro.
The pipeline will slowly be filled this morning. If all goes according to schedule, we anticipate that water supply to the lower lying areas will be restored by this afternoon.
Residents who are currently not affected by the fault and have water running from their taps are urged to use water sparingly.
A flow rate of about 30 megalitres per day is still being supplied to the Metro. This is the restricted volume that the Department of Water & Sanitation imposed. This indicates that water demand is still too high.
We urge residents to stick to using 50 litres per person per day.

Executive Mayor Johnson plans to visit the teams on site to assess the work underway. The Mayor also calls on citizens to continue working with the city, reporting water leaks and continuing to reduce pressure on the system by reducing consumption," says Mayoral Spokesperson, Thango Lamani.
We thank residents for their continued patience and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
UPDATE ON NOOITGEDAGT REDUCED OUTPUT.
The recovery of water supply from Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works has been delayed due to a blockage in the supply pipeline from the Scheepersvlakte dam.
Teams are currently on-site to unblock the pipeline. Unfortunately, no timeframe is available at this stage. Regular updates will be provided.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
UPDATE ON NOOITGEDAGT REDUCED OUTPUT.
Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works is slowly increasing production through the plant. Currently the plant is producing 150 megalitres per day with an extra pump being started as the treatment works clear well fills up.
The Motherwell reservoir has increased from 5% to 23%.
Due to the low water levels, the transfer booster pump stations had to be stopped briefly and unfortunately, this could cause further disruptions in the Western parts of the Metro.
The pumps have been started at Motherwell booster pump station again.
Residents are requested to continue using water sparingly as the recovery of the system takes some time.
