POWER & SERVICE DELIVERY UPDATE

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is currently responding to widespread service disruptions caused by the heavy rainfall and strong winds experienced across the Metro. Our teams are working under difficult conditions and remain committed to assisting affected communities as quickly and safely as possible.
The severe weather has resulted in:
* Flooding at sewerage pump stations
* Damage to homes in certain areas
* Damaged electricity poles and affected power cables
Electricity updates:
* Power supply to NU11 has been successfully restored
* Notsholo remains without electricity as teams continue fault-finding and repair work
* Technicians are currently on site in NU13
* A transformer fire in Mbayisa was attended to by Fire Fighters, however the area is still without electricity at this stage
We understand the frustration and hardship these outages and weather conditions are causing for residents and families. Please be assured that all reported electricity-related cases are receiving attention, and our teams continue to work around the clock to restore services where possible.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to inform residents that at the Walmer Load Centre (Walmer Town Hall and Club Avenue), an 11kV circuit breaker has tripped, resulting in a power outage affecting the following area:

* Walmer Main Road and surrounding areas
Technical teams have been notified and are currently investigating the fault. Further information will be shared as it becomes available.

DETAILS
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality warns the public of a
scam currently in circulation where fraudsters have altered a municipal notice
and ABSA banking confirmation content to look official, falsely claiming that
payments can be made into an alternate bank account.
The Nelson Mandela bay Municipality’s banking details have NOT
changed.
Please note:

Any communication
requesting payment into a new or alternative bank account- should be
treated as fraudulent.
- Making payments into
incorrect accounts may result in a financial loss.

WEATHER WARNING: LEVEL 1 FOR DAMAGING WINDS

Residents are advised that the South African Weather Service has issued a Level 1 warning for damaging winds affecting the following areas:

* Ndlambe
* Nelson Mandela Bay
* Sundays River Valley
Strong south-westerly winds, with gusts of up to 88km/h, are expected as a cold front passes south of the region.
POSSIBLE IMPACTS:

* Damage to temporary structures

ORANGE LEVEL 6 WARNING: DISRUPTIVE RAIN IN NELSON MANDELA BAY
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) Disaster Management Centre has received an urgent inclement weather alert from the South African Weather Service.
Valid from: 05 May 2026 at 10:00
Until: 07 May 2026 at 23:59
Heavy and persistent rainfall is expected, which may lead to flooding of roads, settlements, and low-lying areas, as well as possible damage to infrastructure and disruption of essential services.
Residents are urged to take the following precautions:
* Avoid flooded roads and low-lying areas, do not attempt to cross flowing water
* Remain alert and monitor weather updates regularly
* Move valuables to higher ground where possible
* Ensure proper drainage around homes to reduce water build-up
* Do not make indoor fires without proper ventilation, and keep flames away from high-risk structures
