WATER SUPPLY UPDATE
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality advises residents that repairs to the affected pipeline have been completed. However, the recovery of water supply has been slower than anticipated due to temporary supply constraints from the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works.
As a result, several areas supplied through the Bethelsdorp, Bloemendal and Chatty reservoir systems experienced water outages. These include:
* Hillside
* Bloemendal
* Arcadia
* South Soliway
* Booysens Park
* Chatty (all areas)
* Reservoir Hills
* Joe Slovo West
* KwaDwesi
* Bethelsdorp and surrounding areas
Water has already been restored to the Bloemendal Reservoir, and the system is currently recovering. Final operational adjustments are underway before supply is restored to the Bethelsdorp Reservoir. Most affected areas are expected to receive water progressively throughout the day, although higher-lying areas may experience a longer recovery period.
Residents supplied through the Emerald Hill Reservoir, including Wells Estate/Warmer Heights and surrounding areas, may also have experienced reduced water pressure or intermittent supply while water was redirected to support the recovery of the northern supply system. These areas are expected to recover over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Although the repair work has been completed, the saturated ground conditions require operators to reintroduce the repaired pipeline cautiously to ensure the integrity of the infrastructure. The larger of the two pipelines has now been brought back into operation, which will significantly assist with system recovery.
The Municipality will provide a further update following the next operational assessment scheduled for midday.
The NMBM thanks residents for their patience and understanding while the water distribution system continues to recover.
