NMBM Executive Mayor Cllr Nqaba Bhanga is rallying Miss Albinism South Afirca

Published: October 11, 2021

NMBM Executive Mayor Cllr Nqaba Bhanga is rallying behind Nelson Mandela Bay’s very own Mandisa Makunga who will be representing the City during the first ever Mr and Miss Albinism South Africa on 30 October 2021.

The competition seeks to bring attention to some of the challenges faced by people living with albinism in the country, in an effort to bring about change and solutions for the younger generations.

During his meeting with Ms Makunga, the Executive Mayor said the City would also financially support Makunga to ensure that some of her needs are taken care of when she goes to Johannesburg for the competition.

"We need to educate our residents that people living with albinism are human beings that deserve to be treated with dignity and be given equal opportunities like everyone else. The name calling in our communities need to stop and we need to create enabling environments be it schools or Municipalities in general, for people living with albinism to thrive.”

"We are a diverse City, with diverse people and we need to create a space for our all our children to thrive. We wish Ms Makunga all the best for the competition and we have no doubt she will bring the title back home and continue to be an advocate for human rights, because the challenges faced by people living with albinism are human rights issues.”
