POWER OUTAGE NOTICE – PORT SUBSTATION

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate wishes to inform residents and businesses of a power outage affecting BIAC, Isuzu, DPE Cold Storage, GM SA and other industrial areas within Coega.
A trip has been detected on the 11kV circuit breaker at Port Substation (Z1SS018), resulting in an interruption to the electricity supply.
Operators have been dispatched to investigate the cause of the trip and assess the extent of the fault.

* DPE Cold Storage
* GM SA
* Other industrial areas within Coega

SWARTKOPS / REDHOUSE
Wednesday, 12 August 2026
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate wishes to provide an update on the power interruption affecting the Swartkops/Redhouse areas.
The fault has been identified on the 132/22 kV transformer pass unit breaker. NMBM technicians are currently on site attending to the necessary repairs.
Once the repairs have been completed, technicians will begin restoring the electricity supply gradually and in stages to prevent possible inrush currents that may occur during the restoration process.

These areas remain affected by the power outage while repair work is underway.

However, customers supplied from the Armstrong Substation remain without electricity while technical teams continue to attend to the fault.

At this stage, there is no estimated timeframe for the restoration of supply. Residents are encouraged to treat all electrical infrastructure as live.

Municipal technical teams have identified a cable fault between Union Avenue and Stow Road Mini Substation, caused by vandalism. Technical teams are currently on site carrying out cable jointing.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate wishes to provide residents with an update regarding the power outage affecting parts of the metro.
Municipal technical teams have established that Transformers T11 and T12 6kV breakers at the North End Substation have tripped.
Attempts to restore supply were unsuccessful as the breakers could not be closed due to a lack of battery backup, with the substation batteries found to be depleted. The batteries are currently being recharged to enable the safe restoration of electricity supply.
