The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality welcomes the recent appointment of Christopher Sidima Dyani as Chief Operations Officer by the Council of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on the 3rd April 2023.

Christopher Dyani has over 12 years’ experience in the local government sphere having cut his teeth at the Joe Gqabi District Municipality where he was Performance Management Coordinator (Institutional). He went to various municipalities after that, the last of which was the City of Johannesburg.

Starting off as the Director for Planning and Strategy, Christopher quickly rose through the ranks as he was appointed to act as Executive Director: Development Planning. The City demonstrated confidence in him through seconding him as Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director to several municipal entities such as the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (Joshco), the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market and Pikitup (SOC) Limited, to mention a few. He was appointed substantively as the Chief Operations Officer of Pikitup in 2019, a role he carried until his appointment at the NMBM.

Christopher holds a number of qualifications with a Masters in Development Studies from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PSM&E) from Wits University, a leadership programme from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (University of Pretoria) and is currently finalizing his Masters in Town and Regional Planning at the University of Pretoria. Christopher also completed the National Treasury Competency requirements (CPMD) with the Wits University in 2014

Christopher is an avid reader with a special focus on world history, governance, and the political economy of development. Defining himself as having an eclectic music sense, he has a deep love of music, particularly the genres of fusion and world music. On a sporting front, he enjoys rugby and is a proud supporter of the Blue Bulls.

"I am humbled by the opportunity the Council of NMBM has afforded me and do not take this for granted. With a professional ethic that is beyond reproach, I enter this journey with a sole intent of contributing positively to the improvement of the performance of NMBM on its primary mandate and ensure that the city gains its rightful place in the global packing order” said Dyani.
