COUNCILLOR LOBISHE ELECTED AS NMBM EXECUTIVE MAYOR

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality former Deputy Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe has been
elected unopposed as the new Executive Mayor. This follows the resignation of the former
Executive Mayor, Councillor Gary Van Niekerk, who was also elected as the new Deputy
Executive Mayor.

The election happened at a Special Council meeting that was convened by the Speaker of
Council, Eugene Johnson. Accepting the election, Executive Mayor Lobishe said she was
humbled by the responsibility bestowed on her.

"I am deeply honoured to accept the position of Executive Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay
Municipality. This is a significant responsibility, and I am committed to serving our community
with dedication and integrity. Our focus will be on achieving excellence in service delivery,
ensuring that every resident receives the quality services they deserve. We will prioritise
efficient governance, making sure that our administration is transparent, responsive, and
accountable to the people,” said Executive Mayor Lobishe.

She said, together with other parties she ‘will work towards a brighter future for Nelson
Mandela Bay, where every citizen can thrive’.

"Thank you for entrusting me with this role. I look forward to working with all of you to make
our municipality a model of excellence and good governance”, added Executive Mayor
Lobishe.

Executive Mayor said she was conscious of the reality that she assumes office at the time
when the people of Nelson Mandela Bay are still soaked in flooded areas.
"Working with other spheres of government, we need to collaboratively work hard to
sustainably respond to the challenges on the ground,” she said.

Executive Mayor said one of the priorities of her collective leadership will be the fight against
crime.

"It cannot be that our City is hamstrung by crime. We need take back our City from the
criminals. As a people we need to work with law enforcement to sabotage the criminal value
chain. We will also be giving a special attention to the work and resources of the Metro Police.
We need to establish law and order, respect of municipal bylaws and create an environment
that will promote investment and create more jobs,” added Execuitve Mayor Lobishe.
