The Nelson Mandela Bay
Electricity and Energy teams, working with the contractor on site, can confirm
that the restoration time of ten days that was initially anticipated has since
been revised.
The repair work follows the
collapse of electricity pylons earlier this week, which resulted in power
supply disruptions in the areas of Walmer and Summerstrand.
Weather permitting, and
with everything going according to plan, the teams now expect to restore
electricity by Monday.
Today, 13 March 2026, marks
day three of intensive work on site.
The teams are currently
busy with the stringing of a 1.5-kilometre line.
While the stringing work
could have been completed quicker, the clearing of dense bushes in the area
delayed the process.
Speaking on site, Mayoral
Committee Member for Electricity and Energy, Councillor Ziyanda Mnqokoyi, said
she was encouraged by the commitment shown by all personnel working on the
project.
"The teams on site have
shown extreme efficiency, which we greatly appreciate. We would like to
apologise to our residents and businesses for the inconvenience caused. We are
hopeful that we will have good news earlier than we were initially advised,” said
MMC Mnqokoyi.
