DAM LEVELS IMPROVE AS HEAVY RAIN CONTINUE

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to share some positive news amid the widespread damage and disruptions caused by the heavy rains experienced across the City over the past two days: dam levels have significantly improved, increasing from 39% to 76.22%.

While the Impofu Dam is currently at 36.69%, its levels are expected to rise as overflow from the Churchill Dam continues to flow into Impofu. The following dams are currently at full capacity (100%):
  • Kouga Dam
  • Churchill Dam
  • Groendal Dam
  • Loerie Dam
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Babalwa Lobishe, has expressed relief at the encouraging development.

"In the midst of the heavy rains that have affected our communities, the improvement in dam levels comes as a huge relief. As more overflow from the catchment areas continues to flow in, we anticipate even further improvement.”

The Executive Mayor said the Disaster Management teams are all out to assist the people who are affected by the heavy rain. "As the rain continues and a number of areas flooded we plead with residents to cooperate with the disaster management officials on the ground so that we can limit injuries and avoid fatalities," said Executive Mayor Lobishe.
