What is it?

The Expanded Public Works Programme is one of government’s key programmes aimed at providing poverty and income relief through temporary work for the unemployed.
The EPWP creates work opportunities in four sectors, namely infrastructure, non-State, environment and culture and social, by:

Who is the custodian?
|
The EPWP Unit within the Municipality facilitates the recruitment and selection of EPWP participants to the projects that are both grants and internally funded. (Capital and Operating budget)

Who is this service for?
|
EPWP intended the unemployed South African citizens, residing in the NMBM region.

What is needed for the beneficiary to attend?
|
An applicant must register on the EPWP Database. To do so, the applicant must:

How long will it take to be notified of the placement?
|
Projects are identified and budgeted for by Municipal Directorates. Once budget approval is obtained and the project confirmed, the process of recruitment follows.
The EPWP database and recruitment manager undertakes the process of selection based on the directorate’s needs. The selection process is numerical. (i.e. first come first serve – the first to apply and fits the category / requirement of the directorate, is chosen). There is no definite waiting period.

Where is the service offered?
|
The EPWP placement will be offered within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal borders. This can be in an office or outdoors. The exact location of the office will be determined by the nature of the project and the directorate responsible for the project.
The EPWP office is situated on the Groundfloor, in Kwantu Towers. Govan Mbeki Ave.

How long is this service?
|
The contract duration of the successful applicants is based on the project type/category. This may range from one (1) day, up to twelve (12) months, and may be renewable for another twelve (12) months.

How is this service going to take place?
|
The EPWP participant will be placed within Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality; however, the exact location of the office will be determined by the directorate that will be responsible for the project.
